HV keeps pace with fourth straight win MURPHY � Hidden Valley is playing its best ball of the season coming down the stretch in the Skyline Conference boys basketball race. The Mustangs registered their fourth consecutive win Tuesday with a 65-56 victory over Josephine County rival North Valley. The Mustangs (11-7, 8-3 Skyline) are locked in a second-place tie with Illinois Valley, one game behind conference leader Henley. "Our kids are getting adjusted to playing with each other," Hidden Valley first-year coach Bill Jiron said. "We�re starting to peak late in the season." Senior point guard Colin Carr paced the Mustangs with 16 points and sharp shooter Kevin Ries added 16 points. "I like the way he (Carr) directs traffic," said Jiron. "He makes good decisions. If the open shot is there, he�ll take it." Carr and Ries combined for 13-of-30 shooting from the field. Hidden Valley outrebounded North Valley, 43-34, with Troy Beard hauling down nine to lead the Mustangs. ILLINOIS VALLEY 64, ROGUE RIVER 50 � At Rogue River, Brandon Henry scored 16 points and Illinois Valley took advantage of Rogue River�s foul problems for the Skyline Conference win. The Chieftains lost four of their five starters to fouls early in the fourth quarter and never mounted a serious threat. Josh Horn led Rogue River (1-10 Skyline) with 18 points. Skyline Girls NORTH VALLEY 41, HIDDEN VALLEY 34 � At Merlin, injury-riddled Hidden Valley gave second-place North Valley (11-9, 9-3 Skyline) fits earlier, playing to a 20-all tie at halftime. But the Knights limited the Mustangs to 14 second-half points en route to their fourth straight victory. The win gave North Valley sole possession of second place after Mazama lost to league-leading Henley. Senior wing Angela Bruton led North Valley�s second-half charge by scoring nine of her 11 points. Malloree Enoch added 10 points and five steals, while freshman Elaina Renius cleared the boards for 12 rebounds. Hidden Valley was without its top two scorers � Jennifer Bain and Jennifer Brown � who are out for the year with injuries. Shea Ford and Gina Anderson each scored 10 points to led the Mustangs. The Cougars (4-17, 3-8 Skyline), leading 17-14 at the half, forced 28 turnovers and held the Chieftains to 12 points during the second and third quarters. Nadow also scored 15 points to lead Illinois Valley and Snow Staples added 10. Teammate Corina Dougherty grabbed 11 rebounds to go along with nine points. Bobbi Wright led Rogue River with 16 points.
