McGee catches on in Phoenix win KLAMATH FALLS - Floron McGee isn't the Phoenix football team's only option through the air. It sure seemed like it on Friday, however. McGee, a senior receiver, caught all seven passes completed by quarterback Ross Ellis for 222 yards as the Pirates coasted to a 28-7 win, their first in the Skyline Conference this season. Running back Eric Kessler rushed for 159 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns, with his 8-yard touchdown run and conversion giving Phoenix an 8-0 lead. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound McGee hauled in the game's second score, a 53-yard strike from Ellis in the second quarter, and sent Phoenix into the intermission with a 22-0 lead after a 73-yard TD catch. Kessler finished off the Vikings with a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter. Seth Morehouse provided a late touchdown run from 14 yards out for Mazama. Ellis finished 7-of-10 with two touchdowns and an interception as the Pirates racked up 428 yards of offense. Mazama managed only 197 yards in the defeat, which dropped the Vikings to 2-3 on the season and 1-2 in the Skyline. Phoenix improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Skyline play. The Chieftains (0-5) led 24-21 at halftime on Matt Fredrick's two long scoring passes and Nick Bashans' 88-yard kickoff return. VanderStoel, who carried 30 times, scored on runs of 6, 7, 5 and 80 yards, and Jiron had 29 carries for the Mustangs (3-3, 2-1 Skyline). Fredrick had 155 yards passing after the first quarter but finished with 202. He hooked up with Bashans on a 70-yard TD and later in the second quarter found Matt Branch for what turned into a 73-yard score. The Knights (5-0 overall) led 12-0 but Yreka was inside their 10-yard line with 11/2 minutes left in the first half. That's when Beard made his biggest play, picking off a Dan Weckerly pass and returning it 96 yards. On the first play of the second half, Beard burst 55 yards for another score. He also had TD runs of 5 and 10 yards. Cole Parmelee caught a 20-yard TD pass from Tim Cunha to open the scoring for the Knights, and 250-pound defensive lineman Jonah Boersma provided a highlight when he intercepted a screen pass and returned it 50 yards for a score in the third quarter. North Valley amassed 432 yards of offense and held Yreka to fewer than 200. The Hornets improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in Skyline play. Illinois Valley dropped to 1-2 in league play. Southern Cascade League CASCADE CHRISTIAN 34, LAKEVIEW 0 - At White City, stout defense and a couple of touchdown runs by Brandon Armstrong fueled Cascade Christian at the V.A. Domiciliary in its final non-league game. Lakeview turned the ball over seven times - including six on fumbles - and lost 49 yards rushing against the dominant defense of the Challengers (2-3). The Honkers had 47 total yards. Armstrong provided a boost on offense with touchdown runs of 4 yards in the first quarter and 41 yards in the second for a 21-0 halftime lead. Brandon Fair caught a 17-yard scoring pass from Jonathan Gettman to start Cascade's scoring. In the second half, the Challengers' Mychal Sha returned a fumble 20 yards and Zack Mellow scored on a 25-yard run.
