Sophomore forward Andi Peterson connected on seven of her first eight shots and finished with a game-high 19 points to lead the Raiders (2-12, 1-2 CCC) to their first league triumph of the season. SOU, which shot 46 percent from the floor, held the Eagles (6-8, 1-2 CCC) to 23-for-68 shooting (34 percent), including 4-for-16 from 3-point range. Southern recovered from a shaky start that saw NU take a 9-4 edge, but Peterson accounted for eight of her points during a 23-6 Raider run from which the Eagles never fully recovered. NU trailed 37-34 at halftime and pulled within 41-40 early in the second half following a three-point play by 2001 Cascade Christian High graduate Kelly Clarke, who finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Brad Coen nailed four of his career-high five 3-point makes in the opening half and finished with a game-high 17 points to help the Raiders (5-6, 2-1 CC) improve to 11-2 at home since last December. Junior All-American forward Shea Washington scored 15 and dominated the backboards with 17 rebounds in SOU’s third straight win against the Eagles (10-5, 2-1). The Raiders held NU to three field goals and built a 24-8 edge with less than five minutes left in the first half. After starting 3-for-19, the Eagles finished the first period 6-for-28 (21 percent) and cut a 32-16 halftime deficit to 12 with two quick second-half scores.
