The jewel designed by John Fought was the first new golf course in the area since Eagle Point's christening in July 1996 made an immediate splash. Before the first ball landed on one of its immaculate fairways, the 7,309-yard creation was rated the fifth most difficult in the state by the Oregon Golf Association. The 75.0 grade placed it behind only the likes of Crosswater, Bandon Dunes and Pronghorn. Four lakes come into play on eight holes, and 73 bunkers dot the 18-hole layout. But as challenging as the track turned out to be, so, too, was it user-friendly. Local players quickly took to the course, and it soon was a host to a variety of tournaments and events, including a celebrity shootout, a long drive competition and the city championships.
