And each time, it seemed, Kristen Bitter delivered. The 6-foot-3 middle, who is headed to the University of Oregon to play volleyball, led Roseburg to a 25-19, 26-24, 28-26 Southern Oregon Conference victory Tuesday. The strategy when playing against Roseburg, said Eagles coach Brianna Groves, is to score as many points as possible when Bitter is out of the game. "You have to capitalize," she said. Eagle Point was at game point in Game 3, 24-22, but back onto the court came Bitter, and the game turned. Her setters found her, and she put away shots. "You can’t stay back and let her put the ball down," said Groves. "You have to at least touch it so you can play it. Our net play, our defense on the net, that’s where we need to work." Bitter had 10 kills and nine stuff blocks as the Indians improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in league. "She has that ability to intimidate people," said Roseburg coach Bruce Myers. "They had to hit around her. A couple of times, they tried to swing away, and she blocked them." Also for Roseburg, freshman Emily Waldron had 10 kills, Lindsy Bartholomew 24 assists and Natalie Hooper 15 digs. Eagle Point, which led for parts of the second and third games, dropped to 2-1 in league. Nicole Lucas had eight kills and Ashley Curtis six kills for the Eagles. Curtis also had five stuff blocks. ASHLAND 25-25-25, KLAMATH UNION 16-7-5 — At Ashland, Klamath Union shocked Ashland in the first game by taking an 11-7 lead on 10 Grizzly errors. But Tessa Maurer’s five consecutive aces and two kills helped Ashland rally for the opening-game win, and the undefeated Grizzlies (3-0 SOC) cruised from there. Maurer ended with a team-high eight aces and six digs. Junior outside Chey Hale had seven kills, five assists and three digs for the Grizzlies. Senior middle Marla Morin had five kills, five digs and three blocks. Setter Megan Beugli added five kills to go with 25 assists and three aces. CRATER 26-21-25-25, GRANTS PASS 24-25-20-20 — At Grants Pass, Crater took advantage of a strong outside attack for the SOC victory. Erin Kinney led the Comets (4-3, 2-1 SOC) with 10 kills and Crystal Huntley had seven kills and four blocks. Angie Wright led the way with 27 assists. Erin Glovinsky paced Grants Pass (0-3 SOC) in the losing effort with 14 kills, while Clair Highfield added nine kills and 10 digs. Ashley Franko contributed a team-high 14 digs.
