SOU men tip Cascade ASHLAND � The Southern Oregon University men�s basketball team squandered a large first-half lead but held on for a 61-53 Cascade Conference victory over Cascade College at McNeal Pavilion tonight. The fourth-place Raiders (17-11, 11-6) charged to a 31-10 lead over the first 13 minutes, but the Thunderbirds (6-24, 1-15) chipped away and trailed by only two, 55-53, with four minutes remaining in the game. Southern then held Cascade scoreless down the stretch and took a huge step toward securing a home conference playoff game in the process. Senior guard Tom Chipps nailed four of his first five shots, including two 3-pointers, and paced the Raiders with 15 points. Junior forward Chad Paris came off the bench for 10 rebounds.
