McLeod leads Crater to win ROSEBURG � On a night when the shots weren�t falling, the second-ranked Crater girls basketball team rode the coattails of its defense to a win. Jody McLeod scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Comets to a 54-36 Southern Oregon Conference win over Roseburg on Friday. Crater , which pushed its lead in the SOC to two games over Roseburg, held the Indians to just two free throws in the second quarter en route to a commanding 29-11 halftime lead. "We didn�t play as well as we could have," Crater coach David Heard said. "We didn�t shoot the ball well at all and most of our turnovers (17) were unforced. A lot of that�s to their (Indians) credit, though." Despite sitting Janell Sapienza, Amy Denson and Bre Johnson to start the fourth quarter due to four fouls apiece, Crater still held a 45-23 lead and was never threatened. Denson added 19 points for the Comets (14-1, 6-0) while Sarah Gilding led Roseburg with 12. Roseburg (9-7, 4-2 SOC) managed only 18 rebounds despite a size advantage and shot just 10 of 50 from the field. Eagle Point turned the ball over 20 times in the first half and a season-high 34 times in the game. Alisa Lee scored 13 points and had seven rebounds for the Eagles (4-11, 0-4 SOC). JV result � Grants Pass won. ASHLAND 60, KLAMATH UNION 58, OT � At Klamath Union, Ashland built a 17-point lead, lost it, then pulled out the victory. The game was tied 50-50 after regulation when neither team was able to score in the last 30 seconds despite two possessions each. Ashland�s Lindsey Huyett and Hanna Seltzer each hit 3-pointers in overtime and Seltzer finished off an outstanding performance with three free throws to seal the win. Seltzer scored 25 points despite picking up her third foul in the second quarter and spending time on the bench. Jackie Woods, the Grizzlies� top scorer, was in foul trouble throughout the night and tallied only five points. Ashland led 27-10 in the second quarter, but with its two big guns on the bench, Klamath closed the gap, then caught up in the fourth.
