South's Guiliano hits hole-in-one KLAMATH FALLS -- South Medford's Tony Guiliano sank a hole-in-one Monday in an all Southern Oregon Conference boys golf match at Reames Country Club. Guiliano chose a 5-iron for the 180-yard 16th hole and stroked the ball onto the green, where it bounced a couple of times before resting in the cup. The shot was witnessed by his father and other competitors and was Guiliano's second hole-in-one. Roseburg and Ashland tied for the top spot with 312 strokes. The Indians remain nine strokes ahead of the Grizzlies for first-place in the SOC with two countable rounds left to play. Roseburg's Eric House took medalist honors with a 73 while Geoff Davis of Grants Pass took second with a 74. The Cavemen finished third overall with a 318 and remain in third in the conference standings. HORNING TAKES FOURTH AT TOURNEY -- At Myrtle Creek, Hidden Valley's Dereck Horning tied for fourth place individually with a 76 Monday at the Douglas Invitational Golf Tournament. Jayme Berkowitz (Brookings) shot a 72 to take the top spot. Hidden Valley finished sixth overall with a 332 while the Roseburg JV squad tied for second with North Bend at 321. Thurston took the top spot with a 320. Phoenix took ninth overall with a 347 and Henley held down the 10th spot at 355. Klamath Union (361) took 14th while St. Mary's (371) finished 16th, Mazama (378) 18th and Rogue River (401) grabbed 20th. Softball CHILOQUIN 13-10, PROSPECT 3-0 -- At Chiloquin, Chiloquin took advantage of seven Prospect errors in the nightcap to run away with the win during a District 6 doubleheader sweep. The Cougars trailed 4-0 entering the fifth inning when they committed five errors that helped Chiloquin erupt for six runs to end the game due to the 10-run mercy rule. Lindsey Acrey picked up the lone hit for Prospect (0-6 District 6) in the opener, a bases-loaded double that produced three runs.
