Santiam Christian edges Challengers at tourney, 46-45 Girls prep basketball ADAIR VILLAGE -- Dani Arlyn scored 14 points to lead Santiam Christian Friday night, but in the end it wasn't her shooting that sank Cascade Christian. With Santiam trailing by one point in the waning seconds Arlyn drew a crowd and flipped a pass beneath the hoop to a wide open Ashleigh Young, whose layup gave the Eagles a 46-45 victory in the first round of their own tournament. Cascade Christian will play Salem Academy for third place today, while Santiam meets defending Class 2A state champion City Christian. Santiam (1-0) jumped ahead 30-18 in the first half, but the Challengers (0-1) switched to a man-to-man defense and outscored the Eagles 17-5 in the third quarter. Kelly Clarke scored six of her game-high 15 points in the rally as the Challengers made it 35-all going into the fourth period. "We turned things around and shut them down defensively," Cascade coach Loren King said. But Arlyn, who led Santiam with 14 points, scored on three breakaways after grabbing long rebounds to put Santiam back in the lead. Cascade battled back, but missed the front end of two bonus free throw attempts to allow Santiam its golden opportunity. CASCADE CHRISTIAN (45) -- Clarke 15, R.
