Sarah Lynne Rosa, 28, was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of attempting to elude police, driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and second-degree criminal mischief, jail records show. She was arraigned on the charges Wednesday and was to be released on her own recognizance, according to court records. Medford police reported an officer driving west on Siskiyou Boulevard near Windsor Avenue spotted Rosa at about 12:40 a.m. when her car, a 2003 silver Cadillac Deville, shot past going at least 70 mph in a 35 mph zone, said Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau. The officer flipped on his lights and sirens, did a quick U-turn and followed. Police said Rosa did not pull over and ran a red light at Siskiyou Boulevard and Black Oak Drive. The officer came to a stop. "That allowed the vehicle to gain quite a distance," Budreau said. The officer watched the Deville's lights get smaller as it pulled away until Rosa tried to make a slight right turn onto Murphy Road. "He could see the (Deville's) lights bounce up into the air," Budreau said. "There was no chance of negotiating that turn." The car crashed into Rogue Valley Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, 537 Murphy Road. Crash photos show the impact punched a large hole in the building and shredded parts of the interior, including equipment, furniture and an extension wall. Neither Rosa nor her 26-year-old passenger were injured. Rosa was taken into custody after being checked out at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center and failing field sobriety and breathalyzer tests, Budreau said. Investigators believe Rosa and her passenger were arguing prior to the crash. Dr. Michael Doherty of Rogue Valley Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery placed the damage estimate at $60,000 for equipment and an additional $60,000 for the building, though he said there appears to be no serious structural damage. "It appears to be just cosmetic," Doherty said. The practice was not seeing patients this week, as Doherty was scheduled to be at an out-of-town conference. The office is insured but remains in a holding pattern until the owners learn how long repairs will take and how that will affect appointments going forward.
