McBride has been a steady presence on the country charts since 1993 with hits such as "Independence Day," "Wild Angels," "A Broken Wing," "Blessed" and "This One's for the Girls." She has sold more than 15 million records and was named Female Vocalist of the Year in 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2004 by the Country Music Association. McBride and her band also perform classics by Country Music Hall of Fame members Loretta Lynn, Hank Snow, Merle Haggard, Tammy Wynette and Johnny Cash. McBride performs opening day on July 18. Music fans will get a double dose of country music on July 19 when Blake Shelton and Gary Allan take the stage. Shelton has had two hit singles, "Austin" and "The Baby," from his albums. He is currently on the Billboard country chart with "Nobody But Me." Allan has released five country albums to date, and his latest, "Tough All Over," is nominated for Album of the Year. His songs "Best I Ever Had" and "Life Ain't Always Beautiful" are among the top ten on the U.S. country charts. Disney Studios recording artists Aly & AJ (Alyson and Amanda Joy Michalka) perform July 20. The two sisters have a gold album, "Into the Rush," to their credit, and their hit single "Rush" is on the pop music charts. Aly & AJ's compilations of "Do You Believe in Magic" and "Walking on Sunshine" were featured in the Disney film "Herbie: Fully Loaded." The two also have worked as television and film actors. Advertisement The San Jose-based rock band Smash Mouth returns to the Jackson County Fair this year to perform July 21. The band has just released "Summer Girl," its fifth album. The single "Story of My Life" has been played on the radio since April and is also the featured song for season six of VH-1's "The Surreal Life," with vocalist Steve Harwell appearing as a regular cast member on the show. Smash Mouth's hit single "All-Star" topped three national radio charts and Billboard's top 100 chart in 1999. Neal McCoy, who was named Entertainer of the Year in 1998 and 1999 by TNN's Music City News Country Awards, rounds out the amphitheater lineup on July 22. McCoy was a dominant presence on the country charts through the 1990s with three consecutive albums that broke the platinum barrier, "No Doubt About It," "You Gotta Love That" and "Neal McCoy." His same-titled songs from the first two albums and three others, "They're Playing Our Song," "For a Change" and "Wink," all soared to No. 1 on the singles charts. McCoy has headed his own Nashville-based recording label, 903 Music, since 2005. All concerts begin at 8 p.m. There will be reserved seating and free lawn seating, except for the McBride concert, which is a fully ticketed event. Butler Amusements, the largest carnival company in the West, returns to the Jackson County Fair this year with its midway of rides, games and food. There are family rides with seats that hold parents and smaller children and the more thrilling rides such as the Zipper, Clifferhanger and Evolution. Ride coupon prices are $20 for 24 coupons or $50 for 80 coupons. The rides require three to five coupons each. Unlimited, all-day-ride wristbands will be available for $25. Cotton candy, corn dogs and popcorn, along with caramel apples, hamburgers, fries, tacos and corn on the cob, are just some of the favorite foods available at the fair. New to the daily attractions this year will be Sea Lion Encounters, featuring up-close demonstrations and shows. Brad's World Reptiles, ScienceWorks' Sportsology, the Western Express Railroad and the Qwest Technology Pavilion are included in the daily attractions. The attractions are free with fair admission. Horse shows and livestock auctions, exhibits, vendors, baked goods, street performers, magicians and contests round out the fair.
