Public forums scheduled in response to shooting At least three public forums have been scheduled in the valley in response to the Columbine High School shooting last week in Littleton, Colo.: 7-8 p.m. today, Ashland High School's English Lecture Hall. School administrators will discuss the school's emergency plan and the process for referring troubled students. 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 8, Reston Convention Center, 2300 Crater Lake Highway. Teacher, author and consultant Malcolm L. Smith presents "Why are These Kids So Angry And What Can We Do About It?" Smith will discuss types of anger behavior, how to de-escalate angry situations and avoid intervention mistakes and how to create a safe environment for everyone. Cost is $79 each or $69 each for a group of three or more, parents and college students, $25 each. Registration is due by Thursday, May 6. Smith's talk is presented by White City Elementary teachers; the group is looking for businesses or groups interested in sponsoring people who cannot afford to attend. Speaker Robin Karr-Morse, a licensed family therapist from Portland, will present "Tracing the Roots of Violence," discussing the effects of trauma, abuse and injury on young children. She will also present prevention and early intervention strategies.
