The case started shortly after 8 a.m. when Officer Jason Antley noticed Michael James Kinler, who Antley knew did not have a valid driver’s license, driving a 1997 Ford Thunderbird on the 1000 block of Narregan Street, Medford police said. Antley stopped the vehicle, which was registered to another man, and impounded it because Kinler could not drive it away legally, Medford police Lt. Mike Moran said. While inventorying the contents of the Thunderbird’s trunk before having the vehicle towed, Antley discovered a jar wrapped in a tank-top, Moran said. Advertisement The jar contained a brownish-yellow crystalline substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, Moran said. Officers later were able to remove and weigh 78.75 grams (about 2.8 ounces) of the suspected meth from the jar, Moran said. Kinler was taken into custody on charges of possession, delivery and manufacturing of a controlled substance, police said. He was lodged in Jackson County Jail, then made his initial appearance on those charges Monday in Jackson County Circuit Court, where Judge Lorenzo Mejia set Kinler’s bail at $30,000. Kinler, who has a long history of drug and other offenses, also has at least two other meth-possession cases and a felony attempt to elude a police officer currently pending in Jackson County Circuit Court, court records show. During the investigation, police discovered that the Thunderbird was registered to Scott Franklin Hardin, 28, who called Medford police about 1:20 p.m. to report his vehicle stolen, Moran said. Antley met Hardin at the intersection of West Main Street and Lozier Lane, Moran said. Hardin consented to a "pat-down" search for officer safety, and Antley discovered a small bag of suspected methamphetamine in his right front pocket, Moran said. Hardin, who did not give police an address, was taken into custody on a charge of possession of , police said. He was lodged at the Jackson County Jail.
