Roseburg High graduate Carrie Danchok, formerly Stritenberg, was selected as the new volleyball coach and Tony Cooper comes in to guide the girls basketball program. Danchok was a multiple sport standout for the Indians and went to college at Warner Pacific. She was the head girls and boys volleyball coach at Garfield High — a school with over 5,000 students — in Los Angeles for 12 years. Danchok’s girls volleyball team had a 78-match winning streak ended this season. Advertisement She’s a member of the Southern California Volleyball Association and was a Junior Olympics boys coach. "I think we’ve got a good one," Eagle Point athletic director Harry Hedrick said. "She comes with some good credentials and had real impressive references." Hedrick said Danchok’s family lives in Glide and she wanted to move back to Oregon. Cooper comes from Leadore High in Idaho, one of the smallest school districts in the state. Cooper was the girls basketball coach for 14 years and has a state title on his resume. He began coaching at Leadore after graduating from Western Montana University. Cooper was also the head track coach at Leadore, which is in the Idaho panhandle near the Montana border. "(Cooper) has a good athletic background and had some successful teams up there," said Hedrick. "He wants to step up and see if he can be competitive at this level." Both coaches will teach health and physical education. "Because of openings in those spots, we were able to interview people that were pretty qualified," said Hedrick.
