PREP ROUNDUP North Medford girl runners earn state berth Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Oct. 22, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Oct. 22, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News GRANTS PASS — The North Medford girls cross country team earned a spot in the Class 6A state championship meet by placing third at the Southwest Conference district championships Wednesday at the All Sports Park. The Black Tornado, led by Claire Ebert’s eighth-place finish in 19 minutes, 31.0 seconds over the 5,000-meter course, placed three runners in the top 20 and scored 79 points. Sheldon, with five of the top seven individuals, won the title with 20 points, and South Eugene was second with 57. The top three teams and top 10 individuals qualified for state Oct. 31 at Lane Community College in Eugene. Sheldon’s Melissa Berry claimed the individual victory in 18:22.9. North Medford’s other top-20 placers were 12th-place Victoria Messer (20:02.1) and 16th-place Jaci Brumble (20:29.3). The South Medford boys lost out by one point in their state bid, placing fourth with 96 points to third-place Grants Pass’ 95. South Eugene won with 36 and Sheldon had 63. The Panthers and North Medford each advanced a boy runner to state. South Medford’s Alex Villa was seventh in 16:21.6, and the Black Tornado’s Jacob Allamaras was 10th in 16:47.7. Jackson Mestler of Sheldon was the individual champion in 15:26.9. Boy Soccer ILLINOIS VALLEY 4, ROGUE RIVER 1 : At Cave Junction, Kyle Imhoff scored on a Jesse Gonzalez assist in the seventh minute for Rogue River before Illinois Valley scored three straight in the second half during District 5 play. The Chieftains dropped to 3-9-1, 2-9 in league. Girls Soccer CASCADE CHRISTIAN 2, LAKEVIEW 0 : Cascade Christian scored a pair of textbook goals in the District 5 contest at U.S. Cellular and earned a berth in the Class 3A/2A/1A playoffs as the No. 2 team. Cascade Christian (8-5, 5-2 Dist. 5) plays its first playoff game Nov. 4. Pairings haven’t been determined. The Challengers’ Lauren Cantrell scored in the 15th minute off a cross in front of the goal by Erika Worthington. In the 36th, Worthington cleared to Cantrell, who found Emily Stephens for the finisher. Cascade Christian played with 10 players because of an injury. Lakeview is 5-5-2 and 3-5. Volleyball BUTTE FALLS 3, GILCHRIST 0 : At Butte Falls, senior Raleigh Weaver had 21 kills and Butte Falls won, 25-16, 25-17, 25-15, in the Mountain Valley League playoff seeding match. T'Neal Myers recorded three kills on five attempts and Jade Stubbs had a key six-point service run in the first set for the Loggers (11-6), who sealed fourth place entering Saturday's MVL Championships at Trinity Lutheran High.
