Group revamps Shady Cove road plan SHADY COVE -- An alternate route through town has been moved, and a dead-end street is no longer on the map after a citizen's group revamped its controversial transportation plan. The Shady Cove Planning Commission listened to about a dozen people comment on the plan last week. Commissioners are expected to take action on the plan during the Oct. 28 Planning Commission meeting. "The Citizens Advisory Committee spent many hours on this plan and made the revisions," said Roger Hays, planning commission chairman. "They listened to what the public had to say and came up with changes. "From the lack of hundreds of people venting their spleen at our last meeting, I think the changes were well received." More than 100 people showed up for a meeting earlier this year to complain about proposed roads that would have run through a manufactured home park, a popular restaurant and public boat parking. In the new plan, the proposed access road that parallels Highway 62 has been moved to a hillside to avoid a manufactured home park. The committee also eliminated the proposed "road to nowhere," dubbed by residents because it was shown on the map as having cul-de-sacs on both ends. The committee also eliminated a proposed road south of the bridge and east of Highway 62. Residents can look at a copy of the new plan at city hall or at the library.
