Medford police said the assault occurred at 6 p.m. Sunday in Union Park in west Medford. Police have declined to release the man's identity. He was struck in the face with an object, resulting in a superficial cut on his hairline, police said. He was taken to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released. Investigators learned the man had been selling marijuana to three men when one of them hit him with an object, took the drugs and fled with the other two men, according to a media release. Police say the suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 20s, 5 feet 11 inches tall, wearing baggy pants and a black hooded sweatshirt. Investigators added he also has "some" facial hair, though specifics were not available. The object the suspect used in the assault is not known and could not be seen by the 18-year-old. The fight was initially called in as a possible stabbing, police said. "Based on the injury, it's unlikely it was a knife," said Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau. The suspect is looking at potential robbery and assault charges. Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact Medford police at 541-770-4783. Budreau said cannabis deals gone awry are nothing new. Police have responded to incidents in which buyers menaced sellers with guns, shot them, or tied them up.
