Butte Falls woman arrested in child’s opioid overdose By Nick Morgan Updated: Dec 06, 2022 05:13 PM A A A Butte Falls woman was arrested on a string of criminal mistreatment and child neglect charges accusing her of exposing her 19-month-old child to the deadly synthetic opioid fentanyl. Desiree Maria Darlene Brown, 30, was arrested Friday on three felony counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment and misdemeanor counts of second-degree child neglect and recklessly endangering another person stemming from a Butte Falls overdose reported Sept. 15 in the 800 block of Derby Road, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Mercy Flights paramedics and other first responders immediately gave the child multiple doses of the opioid antidote Narcan, and later life-flighted the child to a Portland area hospital, according to the news advisory. The child spent “multiple days on a Narcan drip” before stabilizing and recovering from the overdose. JCSO detectives arrested Brown Friday morning with help from Medford police’s Livability Team, according to the sheriff’s office. As of Tuesday, Jackson County Circuit Court records showed the District Attorney’s office had not yet filed charges in the case and that Brown has no prior criminal history.
