South Medford boys run past KU Klamath Union sophomore Lauren Jespersen zipped to a Newland Field record in the 800 meters on Thursday, but the South Medford High boys won 10 of 17 events to emerge with a 79-66 track and field victory. The Klamath Union girls, meanwhile, won the 4x400-meter relay to eke out a 73-72 victory over South. Jespersen outlegged teammate Jacob Gomez and South Medford's Shaun Olson to run the 800 in 1:56.1 and break the previous Newland Field record held by Perry Custance. Gomez and Olson also went under the 2-minute mark. Gomez was clocked in 1:57.2 and Olson in 1:59.3. Cameron Gallop won the shot put (48-7) and discus (144-1) to pace the Panther boys, who improved their SOC record to 4-0. Sam Gilbert led the Klamath Union girls to victory by winning the 100 (12.9), 300 hurdles (48.1) and long jump (16-71/4). EAGLE POINT, GRANTS PASS SPLIT - At Eagle Point, Katy Anderson's 36-91/2 toss in the shot put helped Eagle Point to a 79-66 girls dual meet win over Grants Pass. It was the first time Anderson had eclipsed 36 feet, and she did is twice in her series. All of her throws were farther than 35 feet in a breakout effort. Jessica Durhammer won the high jump and 100 hurdles for the Eagles.
