Mail Tribune 100, July 10, 1922 By Alissa Corman Jul 12, 2022 02:34 PM A A News from 100 years ago The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago July 10, 1922 FORD AND FORDSON CARAVAN TO BE HERE THURSDAY Advance representatives of the Ford and Fordson exposition of power farming and industrial trucks, tractors and appliances passed through Medford, completing arrangements with the C. E. Gates Auto company, authorized Ford and Fordson dealers, who also will represent several additional concerns associated with the Ford Motor company in this project. The first of a series of power farming and industrial demonstrations is scheduled for Ashland, Saturday, July 15th, from which point the caravan will work back to Portland, stopping at all towns and cities along the route. “No similar affair has ever been attempted in this country,” said George Gates. “The equipment, consisting of Ford trucks, Fordson tractors, the agricultural implements of the Oliver Chilled Plow works, the Ersted tractor hoist, Hercules commercial bodies, Lee Line contractors’ dump bodies, the Trailmobile, Casey tractor appliances and other features of the caravan represent a tremendous investment in modern industrial and farming apparatus. Approximately 50 men are accompanying the caravan. These men are experts on lubrication, the operation and care of trucks and tractors, farm machinery and industrial appliances, and in connection with the demonstration of each product there will be a series of brief talks and lectures.” After passing through Medford Thursday afternoon the caravan will proceed southward to Ashland and return here for the actual demonstrations Monday and Tuesday of next week, subject to minor changes necessitated by road conditions or other factors beyond the control of those in charge of the program. “In addition to the parade, demonstrations and lectures,” continued Mr. Gates, “there will be motion pictures, radio concerts daily and evenings wherever the caravan stops, and a number of purely local entertainment and educational features now being planned and soon to be announced in the local press.” — Alissa Corman; [email protected]
