Since You Asked: Cascade Christian clay-target team took fourth in state Saturday Jul 8, 2017 at 12:01 AM I was wondering how those Cascade Christian kids did in the state high school trap-shooting competition. Can you enlighten me? — John F., Central Point The Oregon High School Clay Target League's inaugural state championships were held June 24 in Hillsboro. The Cascade Christian team was a hybrid of shooters attending Cascade Christian and South Medford High School, and it competed in the spring's first season of the statewide league. South Medford's Maryrose "Grace" Ede won the overall varsity title for girls, hitting 85 of 100 clay targets during the competition. That was 10 shots better than the runner-up. South's Chase Costanti shot 96 out of 100 to come in third for the boys, one behind the first- and second-place shooters. Overall, the hybrid Cascade Christian team took fourth place out of 13 teams competing in the event. The South Medford kids shoot under the Cascade Christian name under a league rule that allows shooters to join outside teams if their school does not have a team. Students tried and failed to get a team at South Medford last year and plan to try again next season. The local team shot Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons at the Medford Gun Club off Vilas Road, with each member shooting at two sets of 25 clay pigeons each day. The best two scores were taken and averaged for the week. They plan to compete again as a hybrid team next year. — Send questions to “Since You Asked,” Mail Tribune Newsroom, P.O.
