Shooting survivor faces felony charges after eluding police Enriquez Saturday Mar 17, 2018 at 2:01 AM Mar 17, 2018 at 5:48 PM Nick Morgan Mail Tribune @mtcrimebeat A man who survived a drive-by shooting near Union Park less than three years ago now faces multiple felony charges alleging he injured three people in a crash near downtown Medford while eluding police. Adrian Alex Enriquez, who turned 25 this week, was arraigned Friday on a grand jury’s indictment accusing him of injuring two of his passengers inside a Subaru sports car he was driving, as well as a man inside the Chevrolet van he hit during a police chase, according to Jackson County Circuit Court records. At about 10 a.m. March 4, a Medford police officer attempted to stop Enriquez driving a red, 1990s-model Subaru SVX coupe near the intersection of East Fourth and Bartlett streets on grounds that law enforcement databases showed the car’s registration had expired, according to court documents filed by police in the case. Enriquez didn’t pull over, and instead sped away in another lane, court documents say. Shortly thereafter, Enriquez ran a red light at the Riverside Avenue intersection and hit the 2005 Chevrolet full-size van on its side, sending it into a utility pole. The Subaru, with heavy front-end damage, then collided with another vehicle. Medford Fire-Rescue crews needed to extricate the van driver, and two passengers in the Subaru needed to be hospitalized, court documents say. Prosecutors intend to argue facts that would magnify Enriquez’s sentence if he’s convicted, specifically “persistent involvement” and that the crime occurred while he was on probation, according to court documents filed earlier this month by Deputy District Attorney David Orr. Court records also show that Enriquez has an earlier vehicle-elude conviction from an incident that ended in a wreck in October 2016. In that case, Enriquez hit a parked vehicle on Beekman Street while eluding police. Enriquez has multiple felony methamphetamine-possession convictions from 2013 to 2017, along with a felony fourth-degree assault conviction in 2014. Earlier news reports said Enriquez suffered a shattered tibia and punctured lung after he was shot twice near Union Park the night of Oct. 13, 2015. A bystander with military experience and medical supplies rendered aid on the sidewalk. Enriquez’s shooter, Juan Antonio Gonzalez-Marquez, remains incarcerated at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla, and can’t be released until Aug. 5, 2019, at the earliest. Enriquez has remained lodged in the Jackson County Jail without bail, where he’s been held since March 4 after being cleared from Providence Medford Medical Center following the crash, court records show. He faces three felony counts of third-degree assault and a single count of attempting to elude police in a vehicle, along with misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving and second-degree criminal mischief.
