Klamath Falls man charged in DUII crash that killed Eagle Point woman

A Klamath County grand jury Monday indicted a 22-year-old Klamath Falls man on manslaughter charges stemming from a December 2014 crash on Highway 140 that killed two people, one of them an Eagle Point resident. Gauge Lee Gray is charged with two counts of first-degree manslaughter, two counts of second-degree manslaughter and driving under the influence of intoxicants. Both first- and second-degree manslaughter are Measure 11 crimes, carrying minimum prison sentences of 10 years and 70 months, respectively. According to an Oregon State Police news release, 26-year-old Marri D. Young-Wellbaum of Eagle Point and 22-year-old Garrett Zimmer of Hermiston were killed Dec. 28 when the Ford Ranger pickup they were riding in traveled off the highway and hit a lamp post and a sign, rolling over several times. Both Young-Wellbaum and Zimmer were thrown from the pickup and pronounced dead at the scene. Gray, the alleged driver, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. State police arrested Gray on the indictment without incident, and the Herald and News reports that he's being held in the Klamath County Jail on $150,000 bail. — Thomas Moriarty
