The concert will mark Williams' debut recital, as well as his farewell performance and a celebration of his new CD. The Ashland High School honors graduate will begin studies at Brigham Young University in Utah where he has received both academic and music scholarhsips. His CD, self-titled "Jaxon Williams," was released in July. The CD contains works by the Spanish composers Albeniz, Granados and Tarrega, as well as music by J.S. Bach and Andrew York. The CD will be available at Williams' concert or by calling 482-1899. Williams successfully defended his title as the top classical guitarist in Oregon's high schools this spring. The annual competition is sponsored by the Oregon Music Educators Association. Williams has studied in master classes with internationally recognized concert artists such as Jason Vieaux, Ana Vidovic, Dusan Bogdanovich, Martha Masters and Philip Hii. He has been a member of the Jefferson Classical Guitar Society since its inception and has performed in many of the organization's events. He has been a student of guitarist Joseph Thompson in Ashland for six years. Advertisement "He is so ready to move on," Thompson says. "He is playing very well, and as the classical guitar champion for all of the high schools in the state, he is representing all of us with his music." AHS music theory and composition teacher Russ Otte agrees: "He is limited only by what he's willing to achieve. Why wouldn't any community want to celebrate this young man?" Tickets to Williams' show cost $15, $12 for seniors and $5 for students, and will be available at the door 30 minutes before the show. See jeffersonguitar.org on the Web for more about Williams.
