Olson, Piazza cruise to wins at SOC meet Shaun Olson and Sarah Piazza both pulled out individual wins for the South Medford cross country team in a four-way Southern Oregon Conference meet at Hawthorne Park on Thursday. The Panthers dominated the boys side of things with the top three finishers all coming from South and a winning margin of 31 points. Olson led the way with a time of 16 minutes, 54 seconds while teammate Andy Kleinhesselink took second at 17:08. Kyle Lundwall rounded out the top three for the Panthers with a time of 17:12. Piazza paced the girls to second with 41 points and a time of 20:15. Crater�s Sam Kezer finished second in 20:45 while Noi Hilgendorf, South Medford, took third at 21:10. The Comets took the top team spot with 38 points while Ashland finished fourth and North Medford fifth. Three of Ashland�s top runners on the girls side, including Paris Edwards, were competing in the Stanford Invitational and didn�t make the conference meet. Sara Schaaf cruised to the girls victory in 20 minutes, 18 seconds, followed by teammates Liz Lindgren (20:25) and Katie Leary (21:21). In the boys race, Lauren Jesperson and Jacob Gomez each crossed the line at 16:41, with only Chris Roberts of Roseburg able to break the string of Pelicans with a third-place mark of 17:05. Oakland won both the boys with Sullivan Edwards taking the top spot. They also took the girls 5, 000 meter event. Freshman Sullivan Edwards led the Oakers to the top four spots in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:30.
