Pioneers send Cavemen packing, 63-51 PORTLAND -- Mat Tondreau scored 18 points, including nine in a row in the fourth quarter, to lead the Oregon City Pioneers over Grants Pass 63-51 in a consolation quarterfinal game Wednesday at the Oregon boys' Class 4A high school basketball tournament. Tondreau's final score on a driving scoop shot to the basket gave the Pioneers (22-7) a 55-45 lead with 3:52 left to play. Ian Elseth led Grants Pass with 12 points and six rebounds for the Cavemen (19-7), who led six times in the first half. The last Grants Pass lead was 22-21 on a Craig Berg layup with 5:33 remaining in the half. Oregon City's Russ Schneider and Tondreau hit 3-pointers in an 8-0 run that put the Pioneers ahead to stay, 29-22. The Cavemen pulled to within 46-42 at the end of the third quarter on an 8-2 run with 3-pointers from Elseth and Andy Dobner. Schneider ended with 12 points and Josh Houck added 11 for Oregon City.
