Sean Wayne Hodgson, 23, of the 200 block of North Eighth Street, pleaded guilty Monday in Jackson County Circuit Court to a charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle. He was ordered to spend 20 days in jail and serve two years of probation. His driver’s license also was revoked for a year. Hodgson and 21-year-old Travis Reyes were arrested May 18 after stealing the forklift from Pap� Cat Co. on Biddle Road at 11:20 p.m., driving the machine along the bike path and crashing it into an Interstate 5 bridge abutment. "This was a big public spectacle," said Dave Hoppe, deputy district attorney for Jackson County, adding that he had seen mud and grass strewn over the bike path while jogging the following day. A person walking near Pap� Cat saw two men steal the forklift — valued at $20,000 — from the business’ yard and called police. After they abandoned the forklift and returned to Pap� Cat for their bicycles, Hodgson and Reyes were arrested, police said. Advertisement Reyes, who lives in the 1200 block of Cherry Street, Central Point, was sentenced only to probation because he was a passenger on the forklift while Hodgson drove, Hoppe said. The forklift just nicked the bridge abutment, causing no structural damage, according to officials with Oregon Department of Transportation.
