The Jackson County Sheriff's Department has received at least five reports from motorists driving in the 700 block of Brownsboro Highway near Reese Creek Road over a 10-day period that capped Tuesday. "It's been pretty random. Daytime, nighttime. We haven't been able to narrow it down," said sheriff's Capt. Tim Snaith. Police believe a lone individual is responsible, setting up shop in bushes or a tree off the road and opening fire when vehicles pass. So far, damage to cars has been limited to pellet-sized dents in the bodywork. Some of the metal pellets have been recovered. "Some of (the drivers) heard the impacts," Snaith said. "Some people might dismiss it as gravel. My guess is there are more people who probably didn't realize it." No injuries to motorists or passengers have been reported, and no incidents have been reported since Tuesday. Detectives didn't find any evidence in the trees or bushes where they suspect the shooter has been hiding. "The greater concern if this continues is that someone driving past with their window down could get hit with a pellet," Snaith said. Police had no suspects as of Thursday afternoon, but Snaith said tips have started to come in. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. Crime Stoppers of Southern Oregon said a potential reward of up to $1,000 could be given if a tip leads to an arrest and the filing of charges, according to a post on its Facebook page.
