The Vintage Fair at Barnstormer Farm will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at 2255 Coker Butte Road. Word of mouth via Facebook has mushroomed attendance from about several hundred the first year to an expected 3,000 this weekend. Vendors, which include purveyors of vintage home and garden decor, handmade crafts, food and microbrews, have grown from 20 to more than 50, prompting McPhail to call the event "a shabby chic yard sale on steroids." McPhail's family made headlines in 2011 when it was chosen by the ABC Network show "Extreme Home Makeover" for a rebuilding of its ailing home, sited on property developed by her grandfather in the 1940s. She said the event helps sustain the property and helps support the community of crafters and other small businesses. "We had seen the vintage fairs around before and had never been to one, but we loved the idea," McPhail said. "We saw people talk about them on blogs and wanted a way to make our property sustainable, so we thought we would try putting one on. "We almost chickened out the first year," she adds. "We thought, 'What if no one comes?'" McPhail says she tallied over 2,200 visitors last year but her event Facebook page indicates more than 3,000 have said they'll come this year. Visitors will find homemade items, such as quilts and garden decor, up-cycled furniture, antiques and miscellaneous pieces such as distressed doors and windows. Rogue Valley photographer Lahna Graham, owner of Lahna Marie Photography and a vendor at the fair, says the event is a huge draw for the region and a boost for small businesses and locals who love all things vintage. "I don't even know how to explain what a great event this is," Graham says. "If it were close to the river and there were tents, it would be perfect and I would live here," she adds with a laugh. "I definitely feel like Medford is losing out when it comes to attracting businesses. This isn't some big company but it's such a huge and fun event that it's making a big difference for the businesses to be able to make money and to market and it's a great thing for people to come shop." Grants Pass resident and vendor Evon Webster, owner of Salvage Finds, says the fair is comparable to those in larger cities with "awesome variety." "There's a great selection of vendors here," Webster says. "It's nice to be outdoors in such a pretty spot. There are enough items here to furnish your whole house and have pieces leftover for the garden, too." The Vintage Fair Barnstormer Farm will feature live music, beer, wine and food for patrons. Friday admission is $9 for anyone over the age of 12 and includes Saturday admission.
