Crews attack fire near Gold Hill

Firefighters aided by more than a dozen engines and four helicopters were attacking a wildfire off Ramsey Canyon Road near Gold Hill as of 2:20 p.m. today. The flames had consumed 35 to 40 acres, Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District spokeswoman Melissa Cano said by telephone this afternoon. The cause of the fire was not yet known, she said. Roads in the area have not been formally closed, but officials are asking the public to respect the work of firefighters and avoid the area, Cano said. ODF first posted information about the wildfire at about 1:30 p.m. when it was approximately 20 acres. "Multiple ground and aerial resources are already fighting the swift moving fire, with additional ground units and helicopters on the way," ODF wrote in the post. ODF continued, "We are in the very early stages of this fire, and will continue to bring more information as the situation changes/develops. ODF Southwest and our partners are doing everything we can right now to knock this fire down."
