Obama to meet with relatives of shooting victims in Roseburg Comment By The Associated Press MailTribune.com By The Associated Press Posted Oct. 5, 2015 at 4:39 PM Updated Oct 5, 2015 at 4:44 PM By The Associated Press Posted Oct. 5, 2015 at 4:39 PM Updated Oct 5, 2015 at 4:44 PM » Social News President Barack Obama will travel to Oregon this week to visit privately with families of the victims of last week's shooting at Umpqua Community College. Obama will visit Roseburg on Friday as he opens a four-day trip to the West Coast. No additional details about his visit were immediately available. Obama has renewed his call for stricter gun laws following the shooting and has expressed exasperation at the frequency of mass shootings in the U.S. Nine people were killed when a 26-year-old opened fire in a classroom at Umpqua Community College before killing himself in a shootout with police. Another nine people were wounded. Some faculty, staff and students have been bringing flowers to a makeshift memorial as they return to the campus for the first time since the shooting. UCC president Rita Cavin says at least one injured student has visited the campus today when it reopened. Faculty, staff and students began returning to campus on Monday, although classes don't resume until next week. Those who fled the shooting last week were allowed to return to collect belongings left on campus. Cavin didn't identify the injured student who came to campus. She says professional groups are available to counsel faculty, students and staff as well as "comfort dogs" that can help relieve stress.
