LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Letters to the Editor, April 27 Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 27, 2016 at 12:01 AM Posted Apr. 27, 2016 at 12:01 AM » Social News Trump's scary fears A woman in Wheatland, Wyo., “spoke for Trump on Saturday” (Mail Tribune, April 17) and helped solidify my negative views of Donald Trump. She told the crowd she has three grandchildren (as do I): “I do not want any of them working with next generation science … I do not want my grandchildren to believe in evolution. I do not want my grandchildren thinking that global warming is more important than our national security.” I would be delighted to have my grandchildren working with “next generation science,” and if any of them chose to ignore the evidence pointing to the facts of evolution and global warming I would feel betrayed by our shared genes. I find that woman’s fears very scary indeed because I think that they are shared by many Trump supporters. Has our country’s educational system failed us so dangerously? K. Sharon Van Heuit Ashland Crain deserves support Patricia Crain is Jackson County's most experienced judge. She deserves to be re-elected. Personally and professionally, Patricia Crain treats all people with respect and understanding. Before she was a judge, she handled many types of cases, for people from all walks of life. As a lawyer, she was probably best known for family law; but throughout her career she also represented the mentally ill, youth and others who could not afford a lawyer. Judge Crain has been able to do everything the court needs her to do. Judge Crain knows this community from top to bottom, and what people want and need from their court system. Her work as a judge shows that she has not forgotten where she "came from" before she became a judge. Please join me in voting for Judge Crain. Richard B. Thierolf Jr. Ashland Re-elect Charter Judge Joe charter is a good neighbor who cares about the safety of his community. He is dedicated to the goal of maintaining the excellent quality of life we have here in the Rogue Valley. He is fair, compassionate and holds us all to the standard of safe driving and personal responsibility as we navigate our streets on a day-to-day basis. He has been a traffic court judge for 12 years. I ask that you re-elect him so that he can continue to help make our streets safer for us all. Elizabeth Colbert Ashland Vote for RCC bond As a community, we can create change and opportunities for numerous adults that are working toward family-wage careers! Please vote to pass the RCC 17-69 bond project that will add professions in health care, science, mechatronics, manufacturing, welding, emergency services and fire training. The bond also qualifies for matching funds from the state Legislature, which makes sense for this community. Higher wage jobs will bring more revenue into the pipeline of our area. The homeowner cost for a home with an assessed value of $300,000 would be about $15 per year, which is really an investment that will net a tangible and equitable return to all of Southern Oregon. I'm not a fan of property taxes, but this simply adds up! Let's do this!
