Hermann is driving force for Durango Who is the man who does the Dodge Durango ads on TV? He looks so much like Rudy Vallee that he could be a relative. -- Mary Ann J., Central Point The man in question is no relation to Rudy Vallee, but he has plenty of credits to his name without being related to the crooner. Edward Herrmann is the voice behind and the body in front of the ads. "He is a respected actor," says Jodie Armstrong of Chrysler Corp., which makes the Durango. "And well known to most." Herrmann was a Fulbright scholar and studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art from 1968-69. A stage actor, he won a Tony Award in 1976 for his work in "Mrs. Warren's Profession." He has appeared in numerous Broadway and off-Broadway shows. His movies include "The Lost Boys," "Overboard," "The Day of the Dolphin" and "Lady Liberty," to name a few. On television, he was a regular on "Beacon Hill" and guest starred on "M*A*S*H." You may remember him from TV movies, including "Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years," "So Proudly We Hail" and "Sweet Poison." And although he's not related to singer and song writer Vallee, the folks at Chrysler are happy to sing his praises. And they have a suggestion for you: "Just keep watching those commercials, Mary Ann. Better yet, buy a Durango."
