Nan Kenyon Trout Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 18, 2016 at 2:00 AM Posted May. 18, 2016 at 2:00 AM » Social News Nan Kenyon Trout passed away peacefully in her bed April 26, 2016, in Seattle, Wash. surrounded by her family. She was born October 16, 1933 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Nan’s early childhood saw her living on Midway Atoll, San Francisco, Calif., and Shanghai, China before the war. Nan’s parents then settled in Palo Alto, Calif. She graduated from Palo Alto High School in 1951, studied art at San Jose State for three years, then met and married Richard Lee Trout, her husband of nearly 62 years. A devoted mother and voracious reader, Nan had three lifelong interests: education and childhood learning, art, and politics. In 1965 her young family moved to Crystal Lake, Ill. where she became the president of the local League of Women Voters. In 1970 the family moved to Denver, Colo. where Nan volunteered in the public schools as a teacher’s assistant teaching art. She and Richard moved to Ashland, Ore. in 1983 and Nan’s life as an artist and political activist blossomed. She worked primarily in watercolor and colored pencil, and was a long-time docent at the Schneider Art Museum. She re-entered her political life first as an Ashland precinct chair, then as the newsletter editor for the Jackson County Democratic Central Committee. In her role as editor, Nan went that extra step to reach out to diverse communities and post their stories to the Democratic Newsletter. She is survived by her beloved husband, Richard; their three children, Kenyon Lee, Deborah Lynn, and Jennifer Wynne (Hack); her grandchildren; and her sister, Gail Perry Beason.
