Crater Lake fees begin Saturday By JULIE SWENSEN If you're heading to Crater Lake this weekend, be prepared to pay an entrance fee. Beginning Saturday, the following entrance fees will be imposed: Private, noncommercial passenger vehicle rate (including all occupants of the vehicle): $10 Rate per person, which includes those entering by bicycle, motorcycle, or on foot: $5 Bus or van with passenger capacity of one through six: $25, plus $5 per person. Bus with passenger capacity of seven through 15: $60 Bus with passenger capacity of 16 through 25: $90 Bus with passenger capacity of 26 and over: $200 The entrance fee is valid for seven days. Frequent visitors can buy a Crater Lake season pass for $20. A Golden Eagle Passport is also available. This provides entry to all areas of the national park system nationwide for the holder and all of his or her family. The one-year permit costs $50. Handicapped visitors can get a Golden Eagle Passport for free. Citizens 62 years and older can get a passport for $10 good for the lifetime of the bearer. The money goes toward improvement projects at the park. Crater Lake Lodge is scheduled to reopen May 20 for visitors wanting to stay overnight. The Rim Village Cafeteria and Gift Store is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call (541) 830-8700 for reservations and more information. The Rim Visitor Center will open June 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday, June 27, the hours will change to 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the summer. Visitors can get assistance, information and back country permits there or at the William Steel Center in Munson Valley, which is open year-round. Interpretive programs featuring the geologic and natural history of the area are scheduled to begin June 27. The weather at the park is still unpredictable; visitors may still come upon late spring snowstorms. As of Thursday, the snow depth was 146 inches.
