Cecil Alter, observer for the weather bureau, has established his official relation with the local weather bureau as "frost man." The chief of the bureau in Washington, D. C., has authorized the Medford office to co-operate in every practicable way with the fruit-growers of the Rogue river valley in protecting their fruits from frost this spring. Daily forecasts will be issued from the local office, as previously, predicting the temperatures for Medford and vicinity for the following morning as scientifically as possible. Mr. Alter will make local studies, receiving and disseminating weather observations and reports for the purpose of aiding in predetermining the temperatures for each succeeding morning for all parts of the valley. Consultation and co-operation are desired. GOVERNMENT EXPERT TO DISCUSS MARKETING C. E. Bassett, marketing expert from the department of agriculture, will lecture at the public library Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock upon the marketing plan of the department for the northwest. Mr. Bassett has been making a tour of all the fruit districts of the northwest and his plans have roused intense interest everywhere. The meeting on Friday therefore in its bearing upon the future welfare of our fundamental industry, will be one of the most important ever held in the Rogue River valley. There is not a fruit grower in the valley who can afford to miss this meeting. Note the date and inform your friends. GOLD HILL NUGGETS Miss Bernice Nichols, who has made her home with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Perry, the past year, left Saturday for Grants Pass, as she intends to make her home with her sister at that place. Her friends of the local high school surprised her Thursday evening by coming in unannounced to spend the evening with her, and a very pleasant time was had. B. L. Darling of the Gold Hill livery stable, returned Monday noon with another Ford, "brand spanking new," right from headquarters, and immediately upon arriving in town he was required to take a load of passengers to Jacksonville.
