Mustangs thunder past Hillsboro, 16-0 HILLSBORO � The Medford Mustangs scored seven runs in the seventh inning to put the finishing touches on a 16-0 win over Hillsboro Friday in a first-round game at the John Nero wood bat tournament. The first nine batters for the Mustangs scored in the final inning, benefiting from four walks and five hits. Matt Skundrick scattered three hits over seven innings while striking out five in his first shutout of the season. Medford (17-9) plays Aloha at 10 a.m. today. NORTH JACKSON 6, CLACKAMAS 4 � At Portland, North Jackson pitcher Nick Newmann picked up his sixth win of the summer leading the Royals to a win over Clackamas in the Jesuit tournament The Royals take on the winner of the Jesuit/Eugene game today at 6 p.m. North Jackson, last year�s champion, led 1-0 before a five-run fifth-inning iced the game. Newmann doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. One out later, Jake Kleker executed a suicide squeeze to perfection, allowing Newmann to race home for a 2-0 lead. The Royals added four more runs, all with two out, on consecutive RBI singles by Charlie Jackson, Scott Stockton, Jesse Stevenson and Matt Garrett. Newmann, limited Clackamas to three hits before running into trouble in the seventh inning. Two walks, a triple and an error to start the inning resulted in the first three runs for Clackamas. A bloop hit brought home the fourth run before Newmann snared a line drive for the final out with a runner on second. Stockton and Newmann each went 2-for-3 to lead the Royals, who improved to 14-3. South Medford plays Yuba City, Calif., today at 4 p.m. The Colts (7-10) benefited from 13 North Valley walks, including seven during a nine-run first inning, that put the game away.
