Despite Oregon’s lofty status in the eyes of the College Football Playoff selection committee, which ranked the Ducks No. 2 again this week, the team isn’t overlooking Colorado. The Ducks (9-1 overall, 6-1 Pac-12) have already clinched the North Division and have a Civil War to win before the Dec. 5 Pac-12 championship game. The Buffaloes (2-8, 0-7) are the only South Division team without a chance to make it to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., for the conference title game. “Any time you start looking at the big picture or the playoff picture or anything like that, I think it distracts you from what you have to get done,” offensive coordinator Scott Frost said. “This team has been a lot better, even than last year, of making sure we’re concentrating on the next opponent and taking these things one game at a time.” Second-year Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre said his team should be facing the committee’s top seed this Saturday. “I imagine they will probably be No. 1 in the nation tonight,” MacIntyre said of the Ducks on Tuesday before the latest College Football Playoff rankings were released. “They are an excellent football team with great players, coaches, and quarterback. Playing there will be exciting. (Our players) are excited for the challenge.” The 12-person committee tabbed Alabama as the new No. 1 and dropped Mississippi State from the top spot to No. 4 after the Crimson Tide’s 25-20 victory over the Bulldogs last Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Ala. “We feel like Alabama is the most complete team right now,” selection committee chairman Jeff Long said. Florida State, the only unbeaten team from one of the five power conferences, remains No. 3 after slipping behind Oregon last week. The teams just outside the projected four-team bracket are No. 5 TCU, No. 6 Ohio State and No. 7 Baylor. Oregon’s overall body of work was enhanced during the team’s bye week, with UCLA rising up to the No. 9 spot and Utah moving from No. 23 to No. 17. The Ducks beat the Bruins and Utes handily on the road. Other games against teams currently ranked in the committee’s top 25 included a victory over No. 11 Michigan State and the lone loss to No. 15 Arizona. Arizona State plummeted from No. 6 to No. 13 after losing at Oregon State.
