Investigator from Contractors Board to speak in Ashland Get some tips on remodeling, repairing or building a new home from the Chief Enforcement Investigator of the Oregon Construction Contractors Board. The CCB's Bruce Buffington will speak from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Ashland Community Center, 59 Winburn Way. The CCB is a state agency that protects consumers by regulating the construction industry. Buffington will explain how homeowners can prevent and resolve construction disputes, why they should hire only registered contractors, the responsibilities of homeowners and contractors in a construction project, the importance of written contracts and change orders, what to do if a dispute occurs, how to avoid being defrauded by illegally working contractors and how seniors can avoid home repair scams. Buffington says more than 80 percent of the problems that consumers have in new home construction and repair projects can be prevented with a few basic strategies. More than 44,000 contractors are registered with the CCB.
