Crown opened its first Talent location, at 160 N. Pacific Highway in the Clearview development, on Monday. A second market in a new building at 806 S. Pacific Highway is expected to open in June. “Talent is a growing area to locate in,” said Amrik Bagri, manager of the market chain. “We are close to the (Anjou) apartments and the houses. People can walk to here.” The firm sees a need for more grocery outlets in town, Bagri said. Ray’s Sentry Market downtown is the only grocery store in the city, which now numbers 6,200 residents. Another convenience store is located a block south of Clearview on the west side of the highway. Crown Market already has stores on Front Street in Central Point, Stevens Street in Medford and on Highway 99 north of Phoenix. Both Talent stores will have smaller hot deli operations than the Phoenix location to accommodate more staples. Hours will be 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. A limited produce selection will be carried at the stores, but management will listen to customers to determine needs and add products where feasible, Bagri said. Each store will open with four employees, one a manager. Bagri anticipates going to five employees, the norm at the family-owned chain's other three markets, as business grows. Crown Market replaces Snap Fitness in the 3,300-square-foot Clearview location. Snap Fitness moved to the former Avalon restaurant on West Valley View Road to gain more space. The south location will have 2,800 square feet in the new Dragonfly Plaza, a commercial building that is nearing completion. Paving of the parking lot was done earlier this month. Plaza owner/developer Steve Rouse already has leased four of five spaces in the 10,000-square-foot metal building. “Now that the economy has come back, there’s been a demand for clean commercial space in Talent,” Rouse said. Work started in September and Rouse expects tenant CrossFit Potential, a gym, will move in this month. Other tenants include swimming pool contractor Paradise Pools and a firm that packages food for redistribution. Rouse anticipates other tenants to be in the building by the end of May, but noted that Crown Market will have to do more inside prep work to accommodate kitchen and refrigeration needs. “I think owners are attracted to the modern design of the building,” Rouse said. “If you look around the area, there’s lots of metal buildings. We designed it to be more energy efficient.” Crown Market is a family company. Bagri’s mother, Amarjit Kaur, is the corporate officer. The family first opened stores in Roseburg 10 years ago when they moved north from California. Later they had two stores in Grants Pass for two years. The Central Point and Phoenix stores opened in April 2013, followed by the Medford store in August 2013. All operations are now in Jackson County. “We like the area.
