Grey skies and rain will take a back seat to glorious sunshine and springtime temperatures, at least for the next few days. “We’ve got a ridge of high pressure over the western United States,” Misty Duncan, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Medford, said. “There could be a chance of valley fog in the mornings.” Highs could be in the mid to upper 60s through Wednesday, tumbling back down into the 50s later this week, along with some rain by the weekend. The spate of warm weather, which isn't uncommon this time of the year, is pushing temperatures more than 10 degrees above the average high of 53. Low temperatures are expected to be in the upper 30s to low 40s, while average low temperatures are 33 to 34. The high temperature Sunday was 65 at the Medford airport, about two degrees below the record high. Warmer temperatures are giving Rogue Valley residents a respite from an almost two-month period of rain and cold. Duncan said the higher temperatures shouldn’t have a big impact on heavy snowpack in the mountains. “It’s too short-lived,” she said. “We have a pretty decent snowpack going on.” On Monday, Medford should see a high of 65, dropping back to 64 on Tuesday, and then bouncing back up to 66 on Wednesday. Sometime late Thursday afternoon into Friday, a storm front will creep in, pushing temperatures back down again. The Climate Prediction Center forecasts generally warmer weather but above average rainfall for the next month.
