Phew. Or, should we say ... PHEW!!!!! Give the people a chanceto let off some steam about something they agree on and the answers come fast and furious ... really furious. It’s no surprise that we thought of this question playing "Please Don’t Hurt Me" while driving in downtown Medford. From the looks of it, we’ve all been there. We asked: Advertisement What's the most annoying trait that you see other drivers exhibit? Please take a moment to read the responses of your fellow defensive drivers — then answer this week’s new question. Some drivers can't stay in their own lane; they aim their cars instead of driving them. They pull out in front of you. They don't use their turn signals. The list just goes on. — T. Woodard, Applegate All the drivers going to Applegate Lake who think that once they turn onto Upper Applegate Road they are on a country road straightaway and can just floor it all the way; and give no thought to the people who live alongside the road who are sleeping, resting, contemplating, or in their gardens. ... And they do it on the way BACK, also! — Japhy R., Jacksonville Driving below the posted limit and refusing to move aside; not signaling for turns; and generally being unaware and therefore inconsiderate. — Bob Rodriguez, Cave Junction Those who wait until the last minute to get into the lane they need to be in and then cut you off to get there whether there is room for them or not! — Wendy S., Grants Pass I know the things that are annoying to me are people talking on cell phones while driving; and when the bass from (the CD speakers) three cars back is making my windows rattle. — Amanda, Eagle Point Cell phones ... my bumper sticker reads "You're driving a car, not a telephone booth!" They either take another’s turn or sit there afraid to go at all. — Avis Engle, Medford 1) NOT USING A TURN SIGNAL!!! 2) TALKING ON THE CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING! 3) RUNNING A RED LIGHT BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T SLOW DOWN FOR THE YELLOW ONE!!! These things are not only annoying. ... THEY ENDANGER MY LIFE!!! SHEESH!! — Jennifer R., Medford The thing that bothers me, is the drivers that are not very courteous. Cutting people off, DEMANDING the right of way. Heaven forbid anyone allow the OTHER person to go first! — J.L.D., Central Point Talking on their #@8%&! cell phones and not paying attention to their driving or the speed limit. HANG UP THE PHONES!!!! — D.J., Gold Hill Talking on the cell phone and not paying attention to their driving. — saga People who do not pay attention to the color of the traffic lights and are tardy in moving when it changes to green. Also, driving andusing a cell phone seems to result in drivers doing annoying things. — Jim H., White City When traffic merges in constructions sites, you always have a group of people who think they are in a bigger hurry then everyone else and travel to the front of the merge lane rather then merging further back in the lane with everyone else. — Patty R., Central Point They tailgate, speed and break every law in the book. They have their own interpretation of the law. I see it every morning on the way to work on Hwy 62 and I- 5 south. When it says 55, they do 80! How much more plainer can I put it? (Eds. note: You did fine.) — Dennis W., Shady Cove When I'm making a right turn, the driver following me turns into the middle laneinstead of the "correct" one, while I am legally signaling to move into that lane. (Riverside at Barnett!) — Susan A., Ashland Drivers who won't turn onto a one-way street when the light is red and no traffic is coming (i.e. McAndrews and Court) really bug me. — June R., Medford A lot of people either don't know, or don't care, that it's also against the law to go too slow in speed zones. In their own way, they are just as dangerous as the people who drive with excessive speed. — Tom P., Medford Doing other things than driving. — Debbie, White City A total and complete lack of concentration to their driving and awareness of the other drivers around them. This reduces forward visibility by 10-15%. — George B., Medford Drivers who do something really stupid, then flip you off because they know that you were watching. — Gini B., Medford And the no. 1 answer must be: DRIVERS WHO DON'T SIGNAL at all or just as they turn! And DRIVERS WHO WON'T TURN RIGHT ON A RED LIGHT WHEN IT IS CLEAR Thanks for letting us vent! Without them people have to assume and that leads to accidents, wasted time and angry drivers on the road! — Belle S., Jacksonville I arrived here in 2002 from the East Coast — overall, locals lack ALL skills one acquires in metro areas — specifically, cutting out into traffic flow regardless of distance from oncoming traffic, then going slow. — Mike K., Jacksonville ( HOMETOWN: ATLANTA) What gripes me most are drivers who fail to activate their turn signals, thereby failing to indicate their intentions and endangering other drivers around them. — Gene A., Medford Not signaling, not yielding to car on right at uncontrolled intersections, throwing cigarette butts out their window. — Robert S., Medford The complete lack of courtesy. Rude drivers used to plague us only in the summer months; now, they have moved here. — Mark K., Medford Drivers who only obey the seat-belt law & NO OTHER RULES & LAWS OF THE ROAD!! — Steve H., Medford This Week’s Question Last week, the management of the Britt Festivals in Jacksonville unveiled parts of its new master plan. One of those proposals was for an 8-foot-high fence, topped with barbed wire and designed to keep non-paying customers from entering the grounds and getting a free concert. Officials also said that some folks pose potential safety hazards outside the grounds, particularly from smoking in wooded areas. Opposition was raised over both the appropriateness of such a fence for the Britt grounds, and that being able to hear concerts from outside the venue has a long tradition in the city for residents. We ask: "What do you think of the proposal by the Britt Festivals to erect an 8-foot-high, barbed-wire-topped fence around its concert venue?" Please keep answers brief and on point.
