Crater High student cited in dead opossum incident CENTRAL POINT � A 17-year-old Crater High School student was cited Friday for disorderly conduct after he allegedly drove around campus with a dead opossum tied to the back of his vehicle. Wednesday, Central Point police received a report from a student who allegedly witnessed the spectacle. According to Police Chief Mike Sweeny, another student had discovered the animal in the roadway on his way to school Wednesday and tossed it in the back of his pickup. Three hours later, the student allegedly tied the animal to the back of the 17-year-old teen�s vehicle, who then drove around school grounds. "It doesn�t appear that the opossum was alive," Sweeny said. "It appears the animal was dead, but we can�t prove the opossum was playing possum." The driver of the vehicle told police that he didn�t know the furry marsupial was attached to his vehicle. Sweeny said student who brought the opossum to school may face a similar citation. Since the animal was most likely dead at the time it was drug, it�s unlikely that charges of animal cruelty will be filed against either student, he added.
