Volunteers sought to help SOLV riverside litter woes Volunteers are sought to plunge into several cleanup efforts on the Rogue River and Bear Creek on Saturday. The events coincide with the statewide "Down by the Riverside" program scheduled that day by Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism, or SOLV. Trash bags will be provided during each event. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately and bring work gloves. Here are the details: Cleanup on the section of Bear Creek running through Medford is set from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Hawthorne Park. The city of Talent and SOLV have coordinated a cleanup that begins at 9 a.m. at Lynn Newbry Park. Volunteers will plant riparian trees and help remove litter and debris from Bear Creek and along the Bear Creek Greenway. The eighth annual Rogue River Clean-Up, organized by the Bureau of Land Management�s Medford District, begins at 9 a.m. at the Hog Creek boat ramp about six miles west of Merlin. Participants can bring their boats to pick up trash or walk along the bank. The Army Corps of Engineers will hold a cleanup at Lost Creek Lake from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Bridge Hole fishing access site off of Takelma Drive. The site is on the Rogue River below William Jess Dam. Volunteers will clean up Bridge Hole and Casey State Park. Activities include pulling Japanese knot weed, painting curbs, cleaning the fishing access area and picking up litter. Boat ramps are available for those wishing to use a boat to help clean up the river. Last year more than 2,100 people around the state participated in the cleanup events, removing almost 135,000 pounds of debris.
