CRIME AHS athlete pleads not guilty on robbery charges Pruitt faces Measure 11 charges Comment By Vickie Aldous Mail Tribune Follow @@VickieAldous MailTribune.com By Vickie Aldous Mail Tribune Follow @@VickieAldous Posted Feb. 25, 2016 at 12:36 PM By Vickie Aldous Mail Tribune Follow @@VickieAldous Posted Feb. 25, 2016 at 12:36 PM » Social News Ashland High School student-athlete Michael James Zawadi Pruitt entered not guilty pleas today to two counts of second-degree robbery in connection with the alleged robbery of a pizza delivery woman who says she was shocked with a stun gun. Pruitt, 18, entered the pleas in Jackson County Circuit Court. He has a pre-trial conference hearing scheduled for March 28. Co-defendants Melchizedek Michael Jaleel Elshalom and James Clifford Hutchings, both 17 and also student-athletes at AHS, entered not guilty pleas to the same charges Monday. The three are facing Measure 11 robbery charges that carry a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and 10 months in prison upon conviction. Nicole Shulters, 21, a former AHS track athlete and Ashland Middle School football player, said she tried to deliver a pizza to an Ashland home Feb. 15, but a person at the house said a pizza had not been ordered. The person who had called in the pizza order had asked that the delivery person carry change for $100, she said. When she went back to her delivery truck, Shulters said she was approached by three young men who said they had ordered the pizza. She was allegedly shocked in the back with a stun gun when she reached for the pizza. Shulters, who thought at first she had been stabbed because of the pain, said she was able to drive away but was left with burn marks on her back. She declined to say which of the three defendants she believes shocked her. Before his arrest, Pruitt had committed to play football for Western Oregon University. He signed a letter of intent Feb. 3 in the Ashland High School trophy room while flanked by his adoptive father and a coach. He was adopted by an American family after being orphaned in Kenya.
