Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend September 30, 2005 Klamath River body found to be man who fled police YREKA — A body pulled from the Klamath River on Friday has been identified as a man missing since he fled two weeks ago from a Siskiyou County sheriff’s deputy. Charles Ray Rider, 38, was reported missing Friday. His sister told sheriff’s deputies she hadn’t heard from him since Sept. 15 when a county narcotics task force officer attempted to serve an arrest warrant at Rider’s residence in the 12000 block of Highway 96, Yreka. The deputy stopped a Honda that left Rider’s home at about 8 p.m., noting the passenger looked like Rider, according to a release prepared by the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department. Rider gave the deputy a false name, and when asked to get out of the car, threw an open can of beer at the deputy and started running down the highway. When Rider refused to stop, the deputy called his canine partner out of the patrol car. The dog in pursuit, Rider ran down a bank and into the Klamath River. Both Rider and the dog disappeared around a bend. The deputy went to a nearby house and called for help. The dog was later found heading back toward the patrol car. The Honda’s driver, Karen Lynn Kilpatrick, 47, of Klamath River, was arrested at the scene on suspicion that her probation had been revoked, the sheriff’s department reported. A California Highway Patrol helicopter searched the river for Rider on Sept. 16 and 19. Searchers late Friday located and removed Rider’s body from the river approximately four miles downstream from where he disappeared. Fingerprint comparisons conducted Wednesday identified the body as Rider’s. The cause of death awaits the outcome of lab results.
