Rogue River moves into second-place tie with IV Instead of settling for just pregame salutations, the Chieftain seniors spilled that celebration onto the court with a 71-62 victory over Illinois Valley. The win clinched at least the No. 3 spot in the Skyline Conference for the Chieftains (17-5, 10-3 Skyline), who moved into a tie for second with IV (16-6, 10-3) in conference. "That was just huge," said Rogue River coach Scott Anderson. "It was fastpaced the entire time. In the fourth quarter, we just took over." Rogue River opened a 10-2 lead in the first quarter, but Illinois Valley was able to rally for a tie midway through the fourth quarter. That final quarter, however, belonged to the Chieftain seniors as Jason Luchterhand scored 12 of his game-high 26 points and Tony Coma and Derrick Schoner made key shots when Rogue River needed it most. Leading by two points with 1:30 to play, Rogue River received an instant boost when Schoner drilled one of his five 3-pointers on a transition break. After that, it was back-and-forth to the free-throw line for the Chieftains, with Coma going 3-for-4 and Schoner 2-for-2. Schoner finished with 23 points, while Luchterhand added a team-high 13 rebounds and senior Luke Mortinson chipped in 10 assists and nine points for Rogue River. Illinois Valley received outstanding efforts from Justin Graven, who had 22 points, and Daniel Houston, who had 14.
