Medford police have released a clip from surveillance video they hope will lead them to knife-wielding robber who held up a Medford gas station last weekend. The video shows a short man wearing a handkerchief over his face demanding money from two employees last Saturday at the Astro station, 1006 S. Riverside Ave. In the video, posted on the Medford police Facebook page, the suspect can be heard dropping one profanity-laden threat after another. “Give me that ******* cash right now in your hand,” the robber says in the clip, pointing what appears to be the knife. “No, I’m serious. I’ll ******* cut this fool.” The robbery happened at 11:33 a.m., according to a video time stamp. The station’s two male employees had been helping a customer as the robber stood behind the customer waiting, according to Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau. When the robber’s turn in line came, the knife was out, Budreau said. “Initially, I think like all victims, they’re trying to process what’s going on,” Budreau said of the employees. “They told him to leave. After they did that, the suspect became more threatening.” “You need to hurry up and give me that cash fool, right now,” he says in the video. “Right ******* now. Give it to me ******* right now, dude. I will ******* cut this fool.” The video cuts away to a second camera angle that shows the suspect running from the scene northbound on Riverside Avenue, an undisclosed amount of cash in hand. No one was injured. Police released the clip in the hope that someone will recognize the suspect through his voice or appearance. “What is most unique about the suspect is that he is quite short,” the Medford police Facebook post says. The robber was described as being from 5-feet-2 to 5-feet-4, white, and in his early 20s. He wore all black clothing, including a black hooded sweatshirt and backward hat, with a handkerchief covering his face. “The images we have of him are poor, but we are hoping someone may recognize his voice along with his physical description to give us some leads.” “A few nice leads” have come in as a result of the video’s release, Budreau said. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 541-770-4784 and refer to case number 18-23161. Tipsters could receive up to $1,000 from Crimestoppers of Southern Oregon. “Which would be just in time for Christmas shopping,” police said.
