A. R. VETERANS IN ENCAMPMENT AT PARK ASHLAND, Sept. 13 — Civil war veterans attending the old soldiers' reunion are most comfortably housed at the tent headquarters in Chautauqua park. Up to Tuesday noon, 90 had been registered, with 40 tents erected. All points throughout the valley are represented. Monday was preparation day, with an address of welcome by Mayor Johnson, the response coming from Col. Bradbury of Medford, commander of the organization. There was a reception at G. A. R. headquarters in the armory, with songs and speeches. Campfires will be regular events. Tuesday afternoon's program was by Ashland people, and on Wednesday Medford returned the compliment. Exercises are being held in the Chautauqua tabernacle, close at hand and very convenient for the aged and infirm. Among attendants are all Civil war veterans with one exception. This refers to Capt. W. F. Songer of this city, 90 years old last fourth of July, who served in the Mexican war with Co. C, First Illinois infantry, responding to the second call. The oldest veteran present, 91 years, is Wm. Edgley, of Medford, of Co. F, First Indiana cavalry. The "youthful" old soldier in the bunch is O. M. Wison of Talent, 66 years old, who served at different enlistments with Co. F of the 12th, and Co. G, of the 14th U. S. infantry. The Woman's Relief Corps is taking an active part in the reception and entertainment of guests. About 20 members of the association have passed away since the 1915 reunion at Medford. Of this number, five were from Ashland and nine from Medford. CENTRAL POINT Miss Ella Stone, who has been visiting her father, Jacob Stone, for several weeks, returned to her home in Salem Sunday morning, accompanied by her father. School commenced Monday with a full attendance, but dismissed in time for the children to attend the circus at Medford. George W. Daly, Jr., who made Snowy Butte flour famous in the olden times, and late of the Klamath Falls mills, is now head miller at the Central Point mills.
