Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Advertisement Email Story to a Friend April 23, 2006 Hillcrest-East McAndrews intersection project starts Construction is scheduled to begin Monday to modify a dangerous intersection on Hillcrest Road in east Medford. The Medford City Council on Thursday awarded the $375,415 contract to D. Britton Enterprises Inc. of Grants Pass, the low bidder on the project. Work will be between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. and is scheduled for completion July 31. City staff encourages drivers to seek alternate routes. Dennis Hart, Medford public works design and construction manager, said drivers should expect single lane closures. "They’re going to begin with demolition work," he said, adding that work will begin on the north side of Hillcrest. East McAndrews Road currently ends at Hillcrest Road with a stop sign. The change will put a stop sign on eastbound Hillcrest at East McAndrews, allowing eastbound McAndrews and westbound Hillcrest traffic to continue without stopping. Construction is beginning after three years of proposals and discussions with committees and the council. The plan was approved in May 2005. Road Projects The following major road work is scheduled for the Rogue Valley in the coming week: Interstate 5, Siskiyou Pass mud slide repair: Crews and equipment will be repairing shoulders and drainage systems damaged by December’s mud slide. Drivers should expect minor delays and intermittent lane closures during the repair work along a 5-mile stretch of I-5. I- 5 Exit 48, Rogue River Bridge: Traffic is moved to the new bridge’s temporary location while the old bridge is being demolished. I-5 Exit 30, north Medford interchange: Final roadwork is continuing this week on Biddle Road. This includes night and weekend work. Contractor will perform final work, including roadway grinding, pouring new concrete medians, and paving new roadway. This will mean congestion and single-lane traffic in each direction. Flaggers will be directing traffic throughout the work zone, including business driveways. I-5 Exit 35, Seven Oaks interchange and railroad bridges: Two lanes of traffic have been moved to the right for construction to begin in the median. Please be alert for construction equipment movement and construction personnel in this area. The project constructs a new Blackwell Road bridge with modified interchange ramps; I-5 bridges over CORP bridges will be rebuilt. With few exceptions at night, traffic will remain four lanes on the interstate during construction, scheduled for completion fall of 2008. Highway 99 in Talent (Colver Road to Rapp Road): There will be intermittent lane closures on Highway 99 for installation of curbs and storm drains across the highway. Conduit for lights is being installed, along with general excavation. Watch for flaggers. Possible 20-minute delays. All work is weather dependent. Paving is currently scheduled to begin May 15 for two weeks. Construction at the Wagner Creek Bridge continues with improvements to curbs, gutters, sidewalk access bicycle lanes and landscaping. I-5, north Ashland to south Medford resurfacing: Construction continues with the interstate narrowed to one lane in each direction for project duration between Phoenix and Talent for bridge work. Rails are done and contractor is scheduled to begin removing the concrete deck. When complete, microsilica concrete will be poured. One lane open in each direction will be open during the project, scheduled to be completed by Memorial Day. This work is to repair the bridge decks and modify the bridge rails.
